If you are replacing an old tank, contact your local recycling provider or waste management service to confirm the best recycling option in your area.
Water Tanks
What size water tank do I need?
The right tank size depends on your available space, roof catchment area, water usage, and whether the tank is for garden use, household backup, full home supply, tiny home use, rural use, or commercial use. Smaller tanks are useful for gardens, tiny homes, caravans, and backup storage, while larger tanks are better for whole-home, rural, or high-use applications.
Can your water tanks be used for drinking water?
Yes. All of our tanks, except for Waste Oil Tanks, can be used for drinking water storage where suitable. Our water storage tanks are manufactured from plastic resin that complies with Australian food contact requirements AS2070:1,8 and potable drinking water standard AS4020.
If you are unsure which tank is best for your drinking water requirements, please contact us and we can help recommend the right option.
Are Kiwi Tanks water tanks UV resistant?
Yes. Our water tanks are made with long-term UV stabilisation to help protect the plastic from New Zealand’s outdoor conditions. The material is rated at UV20, providing superior UV protection and helping the tank withstand long-term exposure to sunlight.
This makes our tanks suitable for outdoor use on homes, farms, lifestyle blocks, tiny homes, sports facilities, tourism operations, and commercial sites.
What are your water tanks used for?
Our water tanks can be used for rainwater collection, garden watering, household backup supply, tiny homes, rural water storage, lifestyle blocks, farms, commercial sites, and general water storage.

Yes. Kiwi Tanks can supply tanks for tiny homes, including fresh water storage and grey water requirements. Contact us with your available space, measurements, and fitting requirements so we can help recommend the best option.
Can I collect rainwater from my roof into a tank?
Yes. A water tank can be connected to your roof guttering system to collect and store rainwater. You may also need appropriate fittings, inlet strainers, filters, overflow pipes, and a pump depending on your setup.
Do I need a pump with my water tank?
You may need a pump if you want pressure for hoses, irrigation, household supply, tiny home plumbing, or moving water uphill. Gravity-fed systems may work in some situations, but a pump is usually needed when consistent pressure is required.
Can fittings be added to the tank?
Yes. Fittings can often be added depending on the tank and your requirements. Contact us with your preferred fitting size and position so we can advise what is possible.
Can I choose where the inlet, outlet, or fittings go?
In many cases, fittings can be placed to suit your setup. Let us know your installation requirements before ordering so the tank can be prepared correctly.
What colour tanks are available?
Tank colours can vary depending on the product and stock availability. Contact us to confirm current colour options.

Stormwater Tanks
What is a stormwater tank used for?
Stormwater tanks are used to manage rainwater runoff from roofs, driveways, and hard surfaces. They can help with retention, detention, and controlled release of stormwater.
What is the difference between retention and detention?
Retention stores water for later use, such as garden watering or general water supply. Detention temporarily holds stormwater and releases it slowly to help manage runoff.
Do I need a stormwater tank for a new build?
Some councils or site requirements may require stormwater management. Check with your local council, builder, plumber, or drainage professional to confirm what is needed for your property.
Do you supply underground stormwater tanks?
Yes. Kiwi Tanks supplies underground stormwater tank options. Contact us to discuss the right size and setup for your site.
Grey Water & Bio-Loo
What is a grey water system?
A grey water system is designed to manage wastewater from sources such as showers, basins, laundries, and similar non-toilet wastewater applications.
Do you supply grey water tanks for tiny homes?
Yes. Kiwi Tanks can supply grey water tanks suitable for tiny homes, caravans, motorhomes, and other compact living setups. Contact us with your space and plumbing requirements so we can help recommend the right tank.
Do you supply Bio-Loo systems?

How do I know which grey water or Bio-Loo system I need?

Can these systems be used off-grid?
Yes all our grey water and Bio-Loo systems may be suitable for off-grid or remote use, including tiny homes and rural properties. Contact us to confirm the best option for your setup.

How long does it take to receive a tank?
Lead times depend on the product, colour, stock availability, custom fittings, and delivery requirements. If the item is in stock and being delivered within the North Island, delivery is usually around 3–5 working days. Orders to the South island may take longer due to courier and freight timings.
For the most accurate timeframe, please contact us before ordering.
Do large tanks require special delivery?
Large tanks may require special freight or delivery arrangements. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm the best option for your location.
Installation & Care
Do I need a level base for my tank?
Yes. Larger outdoor water tanks should be installed on a firm, flat, level base that supports the full bottom of the tank. Because larger tanks hold a significant amount of weight when full, a poorly prepared or uneven base can put stress on the tank, affect its stability, and may cause damage over time.
For larger tanks, we recommend preparing the site properly before installation and checking that the base is suitable for the size and weight of the tank.
What type of base should I use?
Common bases include concrete pads, compacted crusher dust, or other stable level surfaces. The correct base depends on the tank size, location, and site conditions.
Can I bury an above-ground tank?
Above-ground tanks should not be fully buried unless the tank is specifically designed for underground installation. Some above-ground tanks may be partially buried up to 500mm, depending on the tank and site conditions.
For fully buried installations, we recommend using an underground-rated tank. If you are unsure, contact us before installation so we can confirm the best option for your setup.
How do I maintain my water tank?
Keep gutters clean, check inlet strainers and filters, inspect fittings, clear overflow areas, and periodically check the tank and plumbing for damage or leaks.
Can tanks be repaired?
Some damage may be repairable depending on the tank type, material, and location of the damage. Contact us with photos so we can advise.
